Sermon Outline:
Who are the Elders and what qualifies them? (1 Timothy 2:12-14; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; and Titus 1:5-9)
1. Peter appeals to the Elders…Elders must be Faithful Shepherds (vv. 1-4)
- What Elders must do? (verse 2, 3)
- Why – the Elder’s motivation? (vv. 2, 3; 2 Corinthians 15:14-15)
Leaders are to care for the church and show the same kind of servant leadership that Jesus did.
2. Peter appeals to ALL of us…Everyone should be humble (vv. 5-9)
Five Attitudes for Courageous Christian Living:
(i) Submission (v. 5)
(ii) Humility (vv. 5, 6; Proverbs 3:34)
(iii) Trust in God – casting all your cares on Him (v. 7; Psalm 55:22)
(iv) Be alert and sober minded (v. 8; Ephesians 6:10-20)
(v) Resist him, standing firm in the faith (v. 9)
Followers are to humbly submit to Jesus and the spiritual authority He's delegated to the Elders whom He calls.
3. Peter prays for Spiritual Strength (vv. 10-11)
- Our assurance is that God will! (v.10; Romans 8:17-18)
