Introduction: Matthew 26:39, John 18:1-9

The Seven Sayings of Jesus from the Cross 

  1. "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."  Luke 23:34
    1. Do you know the promise of His forgiveness?
  2. "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise."  Luke 23:43
    1. Do you know the promise of His saving grace (salvation)
  3. "Woman, behold your son!"  Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!"  John 19:26-27
    1. Do you know the promise of His care for you?
  4. "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" (which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"  Matthew 27:46 & Mark 15:34
    1. Do you know His promise to never leave you nor forsake you?
  5. "I am thirsty."  John 19:28
    1. Do you know His promise of living water?
  6. "It is finished."  John 19:30
    1. What was finished?  Jesus:
      1. Finished the job His Father had given Him to do...to provide salvation for humankind
      2. Fulfilled Prophecy
      3. Achieved victory over Satan
      4. Was finally finished with Suffering
    2. Do you know the promise of His joy?
  7. "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."  Luke 23:46
    1. Do you know the promise of His blessing on a life surrendered to Him

This is our King!  He knows you!  Do you know Him?
